Kopitiams are an integral part of the Malaysian identity. The history of kopitiams begin with the migration of the Hainanese (or Hailam in Bahasa Malaysia) people from the Hainan island of southern China. They were among the last Chinese ethnic groups to migrate to Southeast Asia in the late 1800s. And if you haven’t realised it by now, the term ‘kopitiam’ is made up of two words – ‘kopi’ meaning coffee in Bahasa Malaysia and ‘tiam’ meaning shop in Hokkien. It is a marriage of two culture. Of course, we shall take this marriage further, not just in name.

We sneak in our little twist to this coffee tradition.

Our beloved Coffee In Black stands as a modern tribute to Malaysia’s rich coffee culture, seamlessly blending heritage and innovation. Rooted in the time-honored traditions of local brews, it draws depth from bold, aromatic beans and is elevated with the natural sweetness of traditional coconut nectar—a cherished ingredient in Eastern Malay culture. This unique pairing not only reflects the soul of our culinary heritage but also redefines the coffee experience for a new generation.

More than just a drink, it’s a comforting reminder of home, crafted to be shared, savored, and celebrated together.
